Child Delivery through Cesarean Section in India. The Case of Repeated CS

Despite various health complications associated with CS, there are sizeable population opting for repeated Caesarean Section for child delivery in India. The NFHS 5 reported that women with better economic condition, urban residence, higher caste etc. reported higher rate of repeated CS as compared to women with poor economic conditions, rural residence, and belonging to lower caste. The state of Delhi, Jammu and Kashmir, Uttarakhand, Manipur, Mizoram, Sikkim and the southern states including Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Union Territories reported a very high rate of repeated CS for subsequent delivery. These are States associated with higher literacy rate or higher per capita income compare to others. The present study therefore analyse the likelihood of repeated CS according to socio- economic condition and regional distribution.
