The Population Situation Analysis (PSA), developed by UNFPA in collaboration with national stakeholders, is a rigorous, multidimensional methodology designed to analyze and interpret population dynamics within broader socio-economic and environmental contexts. Rooted in a comprehensive framework, the PSA integrates demographic data with socio-economic, cultural, territorial, and gender-based perspectives, offering a robust approach to public policy guidance. The methodology is structured into four key phases: institutional readiness, scope definition, data source identification, and analysis structuring. Each phase emphasizes the use of high-quality, highly disaggregated national data and active stakeholder engagement to ensure relevance and context-specific analysis. This presentation will delve into the theoretical foundations, methodological approaches, and practical applications of the PSA across various Latin American and Caribbean countries. By examining case studies from Colombia, Cuba, Guatemala, Panama, and Bolivia, it will underscore the PSA’s critical role in advancing policies aligned with the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) and the 2030 Agenda. The discussion will also critically assess the methodological robustness of the PSA, highlight its contributions to demographic resilience, and explore its increasing adoption as a strategic tool for sustainable development planning across the region.
