Family violence is a global issue that intensifies under conditions of conflict and displacement. This research investigates the patterns, causes, and consequences of family violence in the context of internal displacement in Minas Gerais, Brazil. In recent years, several municipalities in the state have experienced displacement events driven by environmental disasters, infrastructure failures, and socioeconomic conflicts. The primary data for this study will be derived from municipal and state-level data on reported incidents of domestic violence collected by the Public Security Secretariat of Minas Gerais (Sejusp) and from NGOs working in family protection. Additionally, qualitative data will be gathered through police reports about displaced families across several affected municipalities, such as Brumadinho and Mariana, which have experienced severe displacement due to dam failures. These qualitative sources will provide insights into the lived experiences of individuals and families under stress. Data on household income, educational attainment, and demographic composition from the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) will also be used to control for socio-economic variables. By identifying the key drivers of family violence in displaced communities, this research can inform more effective interventions and policies to protect vulnerable populations in the aftermath of conflict and displacement events.
