Our study explores the intergenerational transmission of fertility in Burkina Faso, focusing on the relationship between women's fertility and that of their parents. Based on data from the Demtrend project, it covers 2,778 women aged 35 to 59. Multiple linear regression models reveal a positive effect of the number of children of the parents on that of the surveyed women. An increase of one unit in the number of children of the parents is associated with an increase of 0.012 in the number of children of the women. Although the effect is moderate, these results highlight the importance of understanding the intergenerational transmission of fertility to guide reproductive health policies. They call for targeted educational interventions to inform future generations about informed reproductive choices to mitigate family influences on fertility.
