Effect of Infertility on Quality of Life in Bangladesh: the Mediating Role of Psychosocial Factors Abstract Background: This study explored the effect of infertility on the quality of life of infertile couples in Bangladesh and the mediating effect of psychosocial factors. Method: This study adopted a cross-sectional design to collect primary data from 137 infertile and 133 fertile individuals through face-to-face interviews. The quality-of-life scale created by WHO (WHOQOL-bref) was used to measure the quality of life of fertile and infertile couples. Univariate and bivariate analyses were employed to explore whether there is a relationship between infertility and quality of life. In addition, self-esteem, social support, social conflict, perceived internal control, and stress were used to measure psychosocial stressors and their mediating effect on the relationship. Results: The findings of the study found a significant difference in quality-of-life scores between fertile (M=104.2, SD= 15.56, p=<.001) and infertile (M=91.3, SD= 14.06, p=<.001) individuals. The mediation analysis presented significant direct (ß=-0.17, p=0.003) and indirect effects (ß=-0.212. p=<.001). Conclusion: This study will help policymakers to take detailed and strategic decisions, employ multiple stakeholders, and take actions regarding improving the quality of life among infertile individuals in the country.
