Impact of Ruling c-055 of 2022 on Access to Voluntary Interruption of Pregnancy Services (Vtp) in Colombia.

Luisa Solano, Asociación Profamilia

Profamilia conducted research to evaluate the impact of ruling C-055 of 2022 on access to safe abortion services and the barriers that persist in Colombia. The research included a virtual survey of 1026 women across the country, surveys in Profamilia clinics with 239 women, and 31 interviews with women who underwent a VTP. The results revealed that the main reasons for considering an abortion included the lack of preparation of the pregnant women, economic concerns and health problems. The influence of the family and partner in the decision to perform a VTP was low, since stigma or judgment on the decision is avoided. Among the barriers, the lack of information about the procedure continues to be a barrier, as there is a lack of knowledge about the procedures and times that should be considered. Finally, with this research it was possible to recognize that with sentence C-055 of 2022, the “Expected Gestational Age for Accessing the IVE” didn’t increase in relation to the two years prior to the sentence, since most IVEs are performed in the first trimester, even though the sentence allows them to be performed up to the 24th week.
