INTERACTION BETWEEN INDIVIDUAL AND CONTEXTUAL INFLUENCES ON THE REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH OF YOUNG PEOPLE AGED 15 TO 35 IN PARAKOU, BENIN

Martial AGBATI , Independent Consultant

In Benin, as in many countries, reproductive health is a key issue for development policies. This research aims to analyse the interaction between individual and contextual influences on the reproductive health of young people aged 15 to 35 in Parakou. The data come from a survey conducted in 2024 by ENSPD among 1,267 men and 2,753 women. The variables of interest include the use of contraceptive methods, the number of births, discussions about family planning and attitudes to pregnancy. Individual factors, such as number of sexual partners, personal relationships and attitudes towards preventing early pregnancy, will be analysed. Contextual factors include place of residence, use of information and communication technologies, and the influence of peers and family on reproductive health decisions. The expected results suggest that young people's reproductive health is strongly influenced by these factors, and that those who are better informed and have better access to reproductive health services may adopt more responsible behaviour.
