Interregional Disparity and Development in Togo: The Role of Demographic Dividend Sensitive Budgeting in Analyzing Determinants. Author: Babake Bawoumondom Co-author: Edem Akpo Area Located in West Africa, Togo covers an area of 56,785 km². It is bordered by Burkina Faso to the north, the Gulf of Guinea to the south, Benin to the east, and Ghana to the west. As per the the latest population and housing census (RGPH5, November 2022), the population was estimated at 8,095,498. Like many developing nations, Togo faces territorial disparities. These disparities stem from the underutilization of natural potential in the regions, the gradual migration of rural populations to urban centers, and the demographic surge in the capital, Lomé. They have long impeded government efforts to alleviate poverty. Our study aims to highlight how demographic dividend sensitive budgeting can contribute to a more thorough analysis of the determinants of interregional disparities and suggest sustainable financial solutions and policies for equitable regional growth. Method Demographic Dividend Sensitive Budgeting (DDSB) serves as an analytical and advocacy tool for a budgetary policy that can more effectively direct sectoral credit allocations, considering the intricate links between budget structure and the impact of public policies on population well-being.
