IPUMS, housed at the University of Minnesota in the United States, provides harmonized census and survey data from over 100 countries—integrated across time and space. The user-friendly database makes it easy to study change, conduct comparative research, merge information across data types, and analyze individuals within family and community contexts. Data are available free of charge to registered users. Data are available from the multiple global-facing IPUMS project databases that include IPUMS International, IPUMS DHS, IPUMS MICS, IPUMS PMA, and IPUMS Time Use. Pulling, in part from the IPUMS International and IPUMS DHS databases, the CORESIDENCE Database, housed at the Centre for Demographic Studies at the Universitat Autónoma de Barcelona (UAB), is composed of three datasets covering national and subnational household composition and family arrangements data from across the world for the period 1960-2021. These comprehensive data shed light on both macro-level variations across nations and micro-level variations within specific regions to facilitate more nuanced analyses. Join us for this overview of the IPUMS and CORESIDENCE databases. We will cover the basics from accessing the data and downloading extracts to using the database for research in addition to website demonstrations. All are welcome; no registration required!
